My Brain Surgery is Over

It's been a long time. I had surgery on november 21.
I had three different procedures. Three different operation
rooms. I wasn't aware of anything on Monday 11/21, I was aware of
of a couple of things on Tuesday 11/22 and by Wednesday ...I was able to go home .

I got the staples out on December 1st, and I will get a check up on

December 21st. I hope by Christmas all will be better.

I went to the doctor monday. My Doc saw puss and blood in my urine . I got some medicine ,1 pill twice a day f0r 7 days .

My surgery is Monday AM, Rich will be with me.

I 'll be in critical care for 2 days, then we'll see how it goes.

May be in the hospital for 5-7 days . I need to get some slippers and jammys.

Thank you for praying & caring. I hope I feel good enough for turkey and mashed potatoes in the hospital.

Our "high speed wi-fi" has been running so slow & I have been

trying to post for days , finally got on.

I'm off the steroids.

My Pet/CT showed my BODY free of cancer so. on Nov.21st I

will check in to the hospital about 5:30 AM. the Order Of St Francis hospital in Peoria IL

They will drill in my skull in three areas, remove the tissue in, each area in a fresh

clean room . I'll be in critical care two days & possibly home in 5 days.

I have lost a lot of sight & won't get any of that back or the bit of hearing I lost . The headaches should stop also.

Hospital stay time is expected to be 5-7 days

I am brave & have a wonderful hubby

some of the best friends that GOD gave me when

I needed them and friends new & golden friends

I am strong

I have many blessings

even on my worse days

It's Been Tough The Last Two Weeks Plus

On Steriods, killing me. I hadn't been strong enough to get up and go out.

I have appointments with my Neurologist and Neurosurgeon Monday.

I've been fighting this actively for 4 years and I am so tired an weary.

I am still standing.

I have a great hubby and wonderful God given friends

Hubby's dad was in the hospital & now is in a Nursing Home to

get better . He is no longer able to live independent. He will get

therapy and medical attention through Medicare to recover.

Many things to be thankful for

loving friends

my hubby

walking

talking

food

a bed

my needs met & more

a loving cat who is with me all the time

God's grace

good insurance

a group of great doctors

still standing after 4 years of fighting

prayers

the ability to enjoy Autumn evenings

the ability to care for myself

people who will take me to the doctor

Thanks to all of you who have cared and been there

Latest MRI Update

Sorry I have been so delayed with my latest news.

I keep losing my password (and my brain)

My latest MRI showed more edema , so I am on a steroid again for 2 weeks

and for another MRI on 11/1/2011. He (my doctor, Klopenstein) will determine then if the docs will do surgery to remove the tissue in the brain.

I am sleeping and I did get out for the

Peoria Art Fair is a annual event I do with my two closest friends. I was so happy

to be out as it is rare I can get safely out and feel well. The steroid is Decadron and

I've have been sleeping by taking Advil PM @ bed time.

I am sorry for keeping so quiet , but I've been been tired, forgetful and not able to do

much communication. Sometimes I think my husband forgets I am ill. His dad is elderly

and Rich has things to do for him also.

I appreciate your prayers and your caring.

I am unable to drive and appreciate my friends immensely

rides to doctor and lunches and just getting me out.

Sometimes I don''t always answer the phone and some day

I don't get up till late afternoon. I don't cook everday and sometimes

I stay in bed all day. ( Not a good idea)

I only have a land line , just a cell phone.

Our house is big , & sometimes if the phone is not on me

I don't hear it.

I don't always function every day. I just watch old Law & Order episodes..all of the SVU, CI and Law and Old.

I did almost no gardening this summer , my passion .

I will try to post a picture soon.

Bet I won't know my password again.....

My MRI from last week is the same, the tumors are the same size. No smaller, no larger, no new ones. I will have another MRI in September. For now it's so so news. I will continue this Tykerb medicine, but I am going to say "no more" at the end of this 30 days dose.

I got a new washer and dryer. We needed it badly. We had to get sprayed as we had

"carpenter ants". What else can go bad? Should I ask??

I made some suet for the woodpeckers this AM. They have babes to feed

& they love my suet.

Recipe: 1 cup lard, 1 cup chunky peanut butter, melt in pan , stir in 1cup flour and 3 cups corn meal. Put in aluminum lined pan, freeze, then cut into suet size chunks and fill suet feeders.

I have pix of my hollyhocks, but my yard is unattended.

I am sorry I haven't my usual garden.

For now just , enjoy music

The medicine got approved for payment . Our portion to pay is still

almost $1,000.00. I go for another MRI June 13th.

As for my grandson Jon, he is in pain . The surgeon says if he does

as the surgeon directs, Jon may be playing football this Autumn!!!

Does Anyone Watch Mad Men? On AMC

Betty Draper, now Betty Franklin.

I love it. It is so much my youth.

I did not live near Madison Avenue but I was about

the tender age of of the of the Draper children in the

time frame of when "Mad Men" is set. I remember

when I was told President Kennedy was dead. Where

I was, who told me, staying home from school to watch

his funeral. My mom crying watching it.

AMC is negotiating salaries for the writer and the

actors. That show wins numerous award every year.

They have such a good thing, they need to do anything

reasonable to keep it as good as it is now. Now they are

holding off new episodes to 2012. Oh No.

Seldom do we see such quality . I look forward

to Sunday evenings. I can't wait. What will I do

now? Jon Hamm is excellent as Don Draper.

My grandson Jon , who is 15, broke his knee yesterday . He will have surgery

next week. Please pray for him. He loves sports & is in baseball and

For now my Neurosurgeon says my tumors are stable, which is good. He doesn't want to go into my brain. The headaches are gone. I am going to eat better, get exercise & try to be good to me & honor God's will.

I am not able to drive, I do NOT have a license , just a State ID. I can try for them again some day if I become able.

Warm weather is here and I am going to try to do some gardening today. Just try some last year trimming dead foliage. The lilacs are blooming .

and a Hernu2 (hormone) Killer that can get in

the brain. The next 30 days will be wicked so

Spring is here but cool. Some blooms, not enough.

My poor hubby.. He's been through alot. he's been good to me.

My daughter and her cats got moved out. I miss them. Am I nuts??

I had a bad first week of April.

I had an MRI on Wed. My head is

hurting alot and too much.

This month I see all my docs.

My youngest daughter is suppose to

be moving with, her sister as a roommate.

I have tulips and daffodils, pussy willows. A Yellow Belly Sap Sucker hit the back

window and died. I took a picture ,poor thing.

It's just getting warm and things are blooming.

Hello , I'm doing ok

I am not doing well, BUT I am not worse. Just no progress on the three original tumors. They are not going away. 6 weeks and another MRI.

In mid April I get my 6 month Pet/CT...a mile stone ..I was going every 3 months

for 3 years as I was stage 4 and had it in my body.. The chemo and radiation

took care of the body.. but chemo doesn't work on the brain. Radiation does.

I have skin issues.. colon issues.. no energy.. don't feel like eating. I sleep late in the day and then can't sleep at night.

I have head aches.. my body hurts and can't wait to get out for walks. Any time

it is decent I'm going to take a fresh air walk.. I can't go alone ...but I can go with

any one who will keep an eye on me.

Rich loves to walk too. so it works

I have not driven for a year. It's ok..but sometimes I'd love the freedom

I still rely on friends for rides...for fun .....and for doc appts.

I will go back to FB soon ..but I try to post on my blog if there is news.

Facebook always seems to have issues that I don't feel

comfortable .

Rich and I and 55 other went to Memphis for Blues competition from Feb 3 to Feb 6th.

It was WAY cold there. I love music, but cold is not fun for me

We had 2 buses and it took about8 hours .

this week.

I am praying Spring comes early and

I have gotten rid of my brain tumors.

Rich and I have our 18th anniversary on Sunday.

Happy New Year!!

We got an inch or so of snow last night.

The snow looks so sparkly.

On Wednesday I had a seizure & my head hurt so bad

I called my neurosurgeon. They told me to call

my neurologist. He said go to the ER and get

checked out. He said he wanted to make sure

I didn't have a bleed in my brain.

We were only there 4 hours. They scanned my head. All

is ok , I even got some pain meds. For occasional use only.

I am tired all the time..I don't get much housework done.

I really like a clean house, but I just wear out too fast.

Christmas was great ..the kids were all here and the grandsons.

I am still not driving, with any luck by summer I'll be all tumor free.

Oh Christmas Was Over With So Swiftly

I hope you all had a blessed Christmas. It was great to

have all the kids and grandsons here.

I didn't get any pictures.

This picture is my son Steve's boys.

They are awesome!!

I received some Bath and Body Works bath products from them.

Rich got me a coat..I really wanted one. It was justwhat I wanted, but

it didn't fit so it goes back to the store.

I don't have much luck with coats. I'm 5ft 2in.

Rich and I also got a Mac Pack, updating our software with Snow Leopard, I Works

& I Life . Now we have I Tunes 10 also. I just love Apple.

We had a great breakfast and ate all the food. My girls did the

cooking. I did the casserole , it was yummy.

Rich is out of town working Monday, Tues, Wednesday.

Last night the power was out from 11PM to 5AM.

It didn't get too cold here.

I am not decorating this Christmas. I just don't have the energy.

I LOVE this season usually, but my body just wants to rest.

I must get into an energy exercise and stay in it.

I don't even feel like going to the mailbox.

That use to be the highlight of my day.

Holiday Shopping

Our shopping has been going well. Doing the online thing.

I finished almost everything today. It's so much better for me.

I got lists from all my family except

2 of my grandsons.

We were without a furnace for 4 days and 3 nights.

Not as bad as I expected..the temp has been in single

digits at night.

We now have a new furnace installed for heat tonight

and installation will be finished tomorrow.

I had a mammogram today and all is good !!

Our Thanksgiving was great . My daughter in law cooked for all of us. and it was great!!!

It was great to be with all the grandsons.

I have to do most my shopping my internet. Not going to do much decorating.

My headaches have been bad. Last night was a bad one.. but I'm better today .

I don't get out of bed until I feel I HAVE TO.

I'D love to do an ornament swap?? But I won't be able to head it up, if someone would arrange it I would love to be part of the group.

I called the neurosurgeon Monday and asked for an

MRI. I had a couple of seizures over the weekend

and was a bit concerned.

The MRI was the same results. no growth, no smaller.

So for now I'm going to relax and pray for results

from the last procedure.

back quickly.

I will sleep all day and night. I know it scares Rich. I usually know it's coming and

I had my 3 month follow up doctor appt. to my Pet/CT scan yesterday.

All but my brain is cancer free. See my onocologist in SIX months.

YEAH

I had a seizure yesterday before I went to my oncologist. If we can just

get those brain tumors in control I could be WELL.

I go back for another MRI i 2 .5 months. We'll see then.

Life is still great here and I slept from Tues. at 2 PM to Weds. at 2 PM

now I am up to make Butter Nut Squash Soup.

With a hubby this good, 2 is better than one.

I wrote about the leaves burning and stopped my post

& went out , started a leave burn in my vented can..

Hello!! I am back from Steroid Hell!! It was WICKED.

I am on a low dose & hopefully totally weaned off

soon. I had Gamma Knife Surgery on 3 of the first batch

of my Brain Mets. (5).

They have been through Gamma Knife Surgery, Whole Brain Radiation & a second

Gamma Knife Surgery. Right now those tumors look the same..no larger.. no smaller

but I will be getting another MRI soon, just to monitor any changes.

If these tumors don't decrease in size or start growing again, the next step

is Brain Surgery. Just drill where each tumor is , remove it & move on to 2

& 3. I'm all for that. Get rid of them & move on. I'd be in hospital for maybe

5 days, as one is a bit deep in. My balance is so off, I tumble from a

stooping position, I can't walk a straight line unless I am walking with

my arns at my sides. It's ok, I can deal .

My friends have to keep a close watch on me & my belongings. The 2nd

thing I did at the

"Fine Art Fair" at our river front, was lose my wallet with all my ID, cards, money,

insurance card EEEKKKK.

My BFFs Marcia & Michele ..Michele stayed with me, while Marcia scouted

the last place, I stopped .. It was there!!! They thought it was a little boys.. Teehee, I love it. The ladies at that table were

selling raffle tickets. No I didn't win, shoot.

Yesterday 9/11/2010

my sweet great niece, Lexie, only 10 years old

lost her you her almost lifetime fight with

cancer and passed way.

She was such a sweet , strong fighter and most

always active and happy.

My hubby was on his cell with his

friend who knows Lexie, most folks in

Chillicothe did.

I heard his friend, say Lexie ( his voice comes over

the phone quite clearly) & I knew immediately ...I just sobbed

& sobbed .

I confess I even said

"Oh no, God, why not me ? I am 55 & she is a tender age of

1o . Why God?? it's not fair, Why??

Wednesday With BFFs

Wednesday was BFF day. Michele recently left her job (retired) and Marcia

just came back from 3 week stay with grandson Hunter and granddaughter Harper.

We had missed each other much.

We had lunch here at "The Nestle In The Singing Woods"

Mint Iced Tea

Baby Salad Greens with herbs, I even added mint to

my salad.

Cantaloup and Blueberries.

Then we took a 2 mile walk on Singing Woods Road

and collecting Acorns.

Came back home and had Red Velvet Cake (Michele brought) &

cupcakes (Marcia brought)

Good conversation..hugs..pix and

little gifts from Michele

I got a Spiced Tea Pouch to set hot Tea and spread the

fragrance & a Tea bag.

I had the Tea & some toast with real butter

& cinammon sugar generously sprinkled atop today for breakfast.

Great to have such kind, caring, sweet friends

I have know Michele (dark hair) & Marcia (light hair for more than 25 years

We all worked at a local big bank. Marcia was a Branch Manager and my

boss in the 1980's. Michele was an Auditor.and I was Marcia's Assistant

Manager in the 1980's when we met.

I am truly blessed with such great friends.

A Perfect Gift

It is WAY me.. and I can't believe how sweet she is to me

I'll be alone for the next couple of days..Rich is working out

of town..so this book can keep me good company. We might

Blue Bird Box

This is the photo I got just as the ladder collasped when I was

trying to see baby Blue Birds..

I landed on my back on top of the fallen ladder. No more

climbing for me now.

I'm doing well, the steroids are making me dry as sand

but they are helping the swelling.

I go for another MRI in a month to see if it worked on the

tumors!!

Pray it did.

My Latest MRI

I had an MRI last Monday..I got called yesterday to come consult with my

neurosurgeon.

Doctor said this (we were there for 2 1/2 hours.) Rich was suppose to

work out of town, but he stayed here and took me to see my doctor.

I had 3 options. ( the tumors are the original set) only 3 of the five. I have had

3 different batches of tumors..over the last two years

They have gone thru gamma and whole brain but they ARE growing again.

My Options

Do nothing..just watch them and reduce brain swelling with steriods. Just putting off

further treatment that will be needed.

Treat again with Gamma Knife..could work..may not..but if it doesn't we are

back at option 3.

Brain surgery.. 3 separate areas of the brain..one is somewhat deep..

all will be drilled..cut out ..sewed up..then on to the next tumor

all done in one day.

in the hospital for 5?? days then home with steroids to reduce

brain swelling and hopefully off steroids in a matter of weeks.

I have another MRI tomorrow AM..it's called functional MRI

and Gamma Knife this coming Monday. All the doctors discussed

my case and they all agreed. we can try gamma again..but surgery

may be imminent.

I'll be glad to get this resolved. I'm tired of whining about it.

A mole tunnel which caved in with the weight of me on the ladder

I had opened the box to take pix of the babes

I was standing on the top of the ladder, clearly

marked DO NOT STAND ON THIS

The ladder went out from under me

and I landed on my back on top of the ladder

which was flat on the ground.

It happened so fast ..I don't remember much.

That lock should be straight across, not bent in.

I didn't think I was that heavy, but I was falling from

at least 5 ft.

I learned my lesson..no more ladders for me.

Oh woe is me, I hurt my left angel wing

and my right hip. But I am fine.

The metal things that lock to keep the ladder open and up..are bent in

so badly, I can't get the ladder close up. It's officially junk and unsafe

to use again.

You would think some one who isn't suppose to drive,

can't take a bath, for fear of drowning would know better.

DUH

I am now a mindless dum bass.

Growing hollyhocks in the garden is the goal of many gardeners who remember these impressive flowers from their youth. The flower stalks on hollyhocks can reach heights of 9 feet tall! They can tower above a garden, adding a lovely vertical element to your yard. Let look at a few tips on hollyhocks to help you grow them in your yard.

How to plant hollyhocks

The fist thing to understand is how to plant hollyhocks. Hollyhocks need full sun and moist, rich but well drained soil. The mistake many novice hollyhock growers make is to plant this flower in soil that is too dry.

If you are planting seeds, sow the seeds outside about a week before last frost. If you are planting seedlings out, wait about 2 – 3 weeks after last frost. Hollyhock seeds only need to be planted right below the soil, no more than 1/4 of an inch deep. Hollyhock plants should be about 2 feet apart to grow well.

How to grow hollyhocks

Once you have planted your hollyhocks, they will need minimal care, but there are a few things you should be aware of when growing hollyhocks. Here are some tips on hollyhocks.

Remember to water from below
Treatment with a fungicide
Make sure the plant has good air circulation

All of these tips should help but will probably not eliminate the rust problem. Your best bet is to keep rust contained to the lower branches. Then the problem will only affect the leaves and not the flowers.

Now that you know how to plant hollyhocks and how to grow hollyhocks, you can grow these wonderful flowers in your garden. Growing hollyhocks in your garden will add some drama and exciting height.

I will have more Hollyhocks seeds soon, so

send me a SASE if you like some. The hollyhock are Biennials and will

green the first year and flower the second year. Continue to harvest and

replant seeds every year and you will have hollyhocks every year.

The Columbine were sparse this year..but every one got some seeds.

Just plant them and let them reseed each year. Both should be planted in the Spring

and kept watered until they sprout.

A few weeks ago, Rich and I went into the Singing Woods.

We found this and some bones we left behind.

I love this... I wonder if coyotes got it.

Today I heard something cry..it was a little fawn,

no other near it. I called it and it came running then

just stopped and watched my friend Cindy and me.

No parents in sight and a pretty young fawn. Still

had wobbly legs. I didn't get a picture, but I know

God blessed Cindy and me with the fawn visit

I'm so slow these days. I don't get around to reading and answering emails

I find it hard to do much posting on FaceBook. Some days I don't even feel like

getting out of bed. I'm weak and confused.

Don't worry, I'm seeing doctors and getting tests. When I find out some

news I'll let you know. Don't anyone think I'm ignoring you, I just can't do

it all. I LOVE to hear from you..I just can't always answer. It's after noon now

and I haven't done anything but take of the cats and kitties. Food, water and

scooping litter.

The lilacs are in bloom (wish you could smell) and Mr Bluebird

is looking for a place to nest..Had to take his picture through our office window.

Rich will be back home today, thank you Lord for that.

When I began this blog, it was to share. My thoughts, my experience, my wee bit of knowledge and my journey. I did this to possibly help someone else. It has helped ME immensely.

I have met lots of great caring folks and made friendships that will last forever.

I never imagined I would be sharing for this long and so much. My cancer journey began

in Oct of 2007 with the diagnosis. So much has occurred in this time. In my life, in my family, in my friendships, in my marriage. I had expected cancer to be part of my past by now.

My latest Pet/CT scan shows NO cancer in by body..NONE!! Praise God.

The MRI shows 2 original tumors in my brain, treated with Gamma Knife

and later Whole Brain Radiation are just sticking around. Not growing, not

shrinking, but now they have become a focal point for brain seizures. There is

no non invasive treatment for them.

I am taking anti-seizure meds...500 MG of Keppra twice a day to stop those

seizures. I was quite frightenend ..at home alone ..when the first seizure occurred.

I was aware that something was really wrong, and I was able to get

my hubby on the phone, he called 911 ..and everyone came to help

Fire , EMT, Police, by the time I got to the ER , I was coming out of the seizure..(not my

body seizing) just my brain...and feeling better. Three months is a long time to not

be able to drive..but I have had my doubts about driving for a while. There

are days I wonder if I should even walk to the mailbox.

On Friday I want to my Oncologist and now my pulse is way too slow, my

blood pressure is way low so.. I'll be going to the doctors Monday to

get an EKG to see what's up. I've always had a good low blood pressure

but Friday it was at 100 / 63 and my pulse was 44.

The first Wednesday of May I will get an EEG also..just to see

what goes on in my head. LOL..not much these days

I am so tired I don't feel like doing much. I haven't been cooking much

and I'm finding it hard to keep up with laundry. I need to clean my house.

I decided one room a day, and not every day. Good Spring cleaning.

Cancer is not the worse thing that could happen to me.

In some ways it has been a blessing.. a huge blessing..

and God has been with me every step. Learning to live with

cancer and it's after affects is my next part of the journey.

It's also been hard to realize how fast life goes. I can NOT believe

I am 55. How fast did that go?? OMG I feel like I'm 20 something in

my head.

I hope you all know how much each of you have helped ME during

this journey. God has blessed me.

A New Doctor

Today I saw a Neurologist , recommended by the ER staff when I had my

episode.

The doctors decided it was a seizure caused by two old brain

lesions that are just hanging around. They have been treated with

Gamma Knife & Whole Brain Radiation and have not gone away.

They are not growing or shrinking , just staying around in my brain.

They have become a focal point and are ripe to cause seizures.

I am on anti seizure meds..Keppra ..was 1000 mg 2 Xs a day

dropping to 750 mg 2 Xs a day for a week , then to 500mg 2Xs a day.

I go for an EEG on May 5th...then see my Dr Xu in July.

Electroencephalogram (EEG)

An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a test that measures and records the electrical activity of your brain. Special sensors (electrodes ) are attached to your head and hooked by wires to a computer. The computer records your brain's electrical activity on the screen or on paper as wavy lines. Certain conditions, such as seizures, can be seen by the changes in the normal pattern of the brain's electrical activity.

I can't drive for sure

until my next visit ..3 months and then he'll re-evaluate me and let me know

if I can drive again.

Friday I get my PET/CT scan results..I'm expecting a good report. For now

the brain seems to be the issue.

Just another saga in my journey, I feel sure I will be fighting this from now on. I'll have another MRI in 8 weeks..and if things look the same ..we'll go back to every 3 months.

For now, I'll be bumming rides whenever I need to go somewhere.

Not fun, but safe!!

the striped guy with the sad eyes is a boy.

I just think they are so sweet~~They come to see you, they listen to you talk

and they are trying hard to climb out of their box. The play with

each other now, not just curl up and sleep.

Tuesday was turning out to be a good day. I had vowed

on Monday not to do work the next day. Rich even

made Monday's dinner.

At about 2 PM on Tuesday..I made iced tea, grabbed my current read

and went to the deck to do some reading. I reached to get my book

off the patio table after I'd gotten situtuated. My hand looked

a mile away. Things got a weird aura around them. I spoke out loud

to myself trying to figure what was going on.

I can't believe the gibberish I heard myself speaking. I was aware I was

thinking right, but not saying real words..and couldn't make a sentence.

I came in the house and hit the caller ID on our phone to get Rich.

He said ..if there was no caller ID on his cell he would never known

who it was . He kept asking me what was going on..I tried to respond

but the gibberish kept coming. He finally said to me he was calling

the ambulance. He was towns away.

I then called Nicole, my oldest daughter ..she YELLED at me. Thought I

was fooling around. I couldn't talk righ but finally told her Rich

called 911. She came right over, stayed with me until ambulance , fire and police

arrived.

Long story short here , I was in the ER Triage from 3 PM to 1 AM

did blood tests, MRI and decide it was a T I A, mini stroke ..that comes, goes, and

heals itself.

So for now..a baby aspirin to thin my blood a bit,(doc says cancer and treatment can thicken your blood) & anti seizure med every day,

see a neurologist..my neosurgeon and my primary care doctor and my oncologist.

If anything like this happens again, I must get to the ER

stat.

Oh what a night!

Slept in today then my BFF brought lunch and I went to bed about 3 hours and

Rich came home. My head doesn't even hurt today.. Thank you God.

We Have FIVE New Kittens

Here they are..2 all black, 1 striped, two black & white

Remy did so good. She had all 5 in about 4 hours, from

7.30 to 11.30 PM

It was amazing, no complications and all healthy.

My older daughter came over with her friend

Ashely and stayed for the births.

Even Rich was excitied!! It was an event

that needed little asisstance from us humans.

so spry. Jumping up on the desk where Mercedes

is on the computer. She seems to be happy . The babies

are asleep..so she is out and about the house.
