  11. Church Here. I want to keep this short. We only have so much comment space. Deena's daughter has let us know that Deena just went into surgery 20 min. ago..2:00pm midwest time. Very delayed. 2 hrs for surgery, after, 3 hrs for reconstruct. Let daughter know that family and her needs must come first, while we all care we are secondary to family. We'll get the info later this evening when the daughter has time.
Any questions, use email holyghost@iland.net or check www.saintsandhaints.blogspot.com if we run out of comment space.

  12. Church.... Deena thru first phase surgery and in flap phase now. Sentinel Lobe cancer positive, all nodes hard. It is 6:30pm 12-12-07.
Chemo and radiation will begin in 4weeks. No nerve damage. Her daughter Nicole is very scared and wants to relieve her mother of this path. This 25 yr old is a mother herself. She is also trying to help stabilize Deena's husband, Rich, who is distraught at results. Let's keep this young woman in prayer also along with the whole family.
I will post more if I get anymore info tonite.

  16. Church, thank you for the updates. Have been thinking about Deena constantly. Positive nodes is NOT necessarily a bad thing..please pass this one. I had 1 positive node in the sentinel and then the rest removed..all were clear. Scans will need to be done to see if cells have travelled. Will keep positive thoughts that they haven't.

Chemo and radition are essential now and can be done...I've done them all and am glad I did...and we'll get Deena through this. Family will manage this too...cancer is a hard road to walk but it can be done.

Bless you for keeping us informed.

  17. Church replies.... please scroll to Sherry comment and it's "Sentinel node", sorry for mispell. Thank you and I am just to serve and we are all doing this together, being there. Please if all/any women like Sherry have this kind knowledge/experience, share it!

  24. Glad to hear that Deena is done with the surgery and has been resting..I'm sure they have given her plenty of pain meds which will help her sleep.

Church, you have been wonderful with keeping Deena's spirits lifted and in keeping all of us informed of her progress. Many blessings to you.

Breast cancer is a scary prospect no doubt, but the further we walk the road, the easier it becomes. And certainly no fault at all in not knowing the terminology...it's not something I was ever familiar with myself until I had to...

Node involvement is never what the surgeons want to find, however, this is not all bad as I said last night. What it does is change the classification of her cancer and the staging and it dictates what treatment plan becomes necessary.

They then check with other scans to determine if the cells have travelled which also dictates treatment and staging.

There are so many advances and positives with breast cancer treatments now that even a stage IV cancer (which is the last one) is often considered "chronic disease" and treated like diabetes with a life long treatment plan.

This is a time now for Deena's healing and for the lab to make its determinations from the pathology. So more prayers and more support but the first hurdle is over. Amen for that!

  25. Deena, I thought of you all day yesterday and kept you in my prayers. Your Church is AWESOME! for keeping us updated on your surgery, etc. All of us are thinking of you and wishing you the quickest recovery. Just remember to rest. Like Sherry said, this can be beat. Cancer is an ugly thing, but YOU have the spirit of a survivior. I don't know you, but what I have read shows that you are a positive person who is full of love and faith.

Blessings and hugs to you and your family.

  36. oh Sweetie, I am so with you in Spirit and Prayer...been praying since your day of surgery. I can't help but feel all you are going through, as last year at this time me too. Each day gets better in the healing process. If they want you to do the exercises, push through the pain. I did and I have full use of my arm because of it. And I felt so proud that I did this.

So many steps ahead, and it will seem like an eternity, but before you know it, you will be looking back and thinking, wow, I did that.

With God and your loved ones (and your online buddies) you will be stronger for this trial. Life will be sweeter and the smallest things will be so grand.

Remember, I'm Stage 3 and LIFE is still (better) after cancer. It is an upside down blessing, indeed, but a blessing in so many ways.

Hope you got a little pillow for that arm and I'll be sending you the hot waterbottle for chemo...going to order that for you right now.

    love to you my friend,
    joanna

  45. CHURCH! Called Nicole to check up on Deena. 4pm Midwest 12-15-07 Sat.
"Deena up and about today for the first time. Migraine yesterday so she couldn't get up. Migraines have been part of Deena's whole life. Dr's say no reason Deena can't come home on Sun, tomarrow. 11am release most likely." Nicole has to say: "The weather is really crappy. I do not like snow and it is really crappy out." Heard her children in the background....no Grandma last night for Fri baths!
