Church...About 2-3 years back I was watching Larry King interview Billy Graham. I had always liked Mr. Graham, even when I had been a wild young one and never heard of an evangelist as I was east coast Catholic. So, I'm watching this interview and Larry asks a bunch of questions as always. Then he asks Mr. Graham if there is anything that he fears. Bill Graham says that he has learned to accept God' will in most of life over the years, but there is one thing he has asked of God. Larry asks him, what that is. Mr. Graham answers, "I have asked that God let me die before my wife. I don't think I can be ok if my wife were to leave me behind here without her." I was pretty impressed at Mr. Graham's honesty and humanity. Knowing how much he knew and how deep his spiritual walk had been, what he said stayed with me. When I heard just a short while ago that Billy Graham's wife had died...I had to sit for a day or so and think it all over. I thought about all he had done in the name of God and also suffered for Christ. He has led more people to God and through Jesus than most of us ever even meet in a lifetime. He has traveled countries saving many and has ministered to leaders in all of them. He has given his opinion to many president's. He is very versed in the human frailities and shortcomings. He had one fear that he named and it was about losing his beloved wife. And with that one request of God that he shared...I remembered it and remembered it when I heard that his request had not been honored by God...not after all of what Mr. Graham had done in God's name. I don't understand anything. I only hope I someday can have one inch of the faith I have seen in so many others.
